Albany, GA August 28, 2024: The Kamala Harris-Tim Walz campaign is undertaking a much-publicized bus tour through South Georgia this week. Republican Congressional Candidate Wayne Johnson has decided that he will be going along for the ride.

Johnson’s campaign will use its three spectacularly wrapped “Wayne Johnson for Congress” trucks to trail the Democrat bus from Albany to Valdosta and on to Savannah, with stops along the way. The Wayne Johnson campaign trucks will also be broadcasting and displaying the message that it is time to “Stop The Stupid In Washington.”

“Harris and Walz have the audacity to come down here to Georgia, below the 'Gnat Line,' and pander to Black voters with nothing more than the grace of an appearance, a wave and a smile and believe that they can convince voters that they are feeling the 'joy' when they pay high prices at the gas pump or at a grocery store,” said Johnson.

“Well, we are going to meet their audacity with a little audacity of our own,” said Johnson, who will face 32-year incumbent, career politician Sanford Bishop in the November General Election.

Johnson explained that “The Democrats are making a symbolic bus tour appearance with the intention of trying to convey empathy for Black voters. That is not going to work. Our folks are smart enough to see through a bunch of Washington and Atlanta elites like Harris, Sanford Bishop, Lucy McBath, and Nikema Williams. Where have Bishop and these other elites been as people, farms, and businesses of Middle and Southwest Georgia have been hurting?”

“It is clear what Harris, Walz and Bishop are doing with this grandstanding bus tour, and it is not going to go as well as they think. Certainly, they are going to be challenged along the way by me and my congressional campaign team and by supporters of President Trump,” said Johnson.

Johnson’s campaign theme is “Stop the Stupid in Washington.”  Wayne said that “There is nothing that screams Washington more than Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, Sanford Bishop, Lucy McBath, Nikema Williams and Raphael Warnock being on the same bus at the same time.”

“My campaign and I decided to pull a page from ‘Coach’ Walz’s playbook and get on the ground and do some blocking and tackling of our own,” said Johnson, a former U.S. Army Officer and senior official in the Trump administration. Wayne continued saying that “We are not going to let Sanford Bishop get a Harris 'assisted free shot’ at getting re-elected to a 17th term in Congress. Think about that, 34 years in Congress."

“It is time for Sanford Bishop to get off the bus and meet me on debate stages in the 2nd District. I encourage the local media in Albany, Macon, Columbus, Thomasville, Bainbridge, and Americus to take a serious interest in this race between me and Sanford Bishop." said Johnson.

“It seems part of the reason for the bus tour is to give disappointing Sanford Bishop more airtime, just like they did at the DNC." said Johnson. "Bishop is out of touch with the people who elected him. It does not matter if you are Black, White, or Hispanic, the pain inflected by Biden, Bishop and Harris over the past four years needs to end with the voters of Georgia sending Bishop into long overdue retirement this November.” continued Johnson.

Dr Wayne Johnson was born in Macon and has been a lifelong resident of Georgia. Johnson is a husband, father, grandfather, and U.S. Army veteran. He obtained his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Mercer University and his master’s in business from Emory University.Wayne Headshot

Johnson is a respected former banker who has established businesses in Middle and Southwest Georgia, other parts of Georgia and internationally. He has enjoyed both cattle and tree farming and has worked for major corporations with ties to Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District.

“My message has been and will continue to be that we must “Stop the Stupid in Washington” and address the kitchen table issues impacting every family in our district of Georgia,” said Johnson. “It is time to retire Sanford Bishop. A Change Will Be Good!”
