U.S. Congress Candidate Wayne Johnson In Taylor County for ‘Sheriff’s Shootout’

U.S. Congress candidate Wayne Johnson traveled to Taylor County for the “Sheriff’s Shootout” where the two candidates for Sheriff of Taylor County made their pitch to voters on why they should be the next sheriff.

The event was held outdoors in front of the Taylor County Courthouse. The candidates were Democrat candidate Tommie Fowler and Republican candidate John “Bubba” Sawyer.

The two are running to replace Sheriff Jeff Watson, who decided not to run for re-election.

“This is grass-roots politics at its best, and I enjoy watching the process play out at the local level,” said Johnson, who is running against 32-year incumbent Sanford Bishop in the November General Election. “I wanted to be here because I value how important a county sheriff is in Georgia, and I know what a fantastic job Sheriff Watson has done. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Department is the closest law enforcement agency to the people of Taylor County. It is the same across the state.”

Johnson did not hesitate in endorsing Sawyer.

“I was impressed with what Bubba had to say,” said Johnson. “I think the people of Taylor County will be well served if they vote to have Bubba follow Sheriff Watson.”

Johnson said the display of mutual respect the candidates showed for each other at the end of the forum was worth noting.

“The two men physically embraced each other,” said Johnson. “Taylor County is extremely blessed to have two such noble men as candidates for the high office of county Sherriff.”

Dr. Wayne Johnson was born in Macon and has been a lifelong resident of Georgia. Johnson is a husband, father, grandfather and U.S. Army veteran. He obtained his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Mercer University and his master’s in business from Emory University.

Johnson is a respected former banker who has established businesses in Middle and Southwest Georgia, other parts of Georgia and internationally. He has enjoyed both cattle and tree farming and has worked for major corporations with ties to Middle and Southwest Georgia.

“My message has been and will continue to be that we must “Stop the Stupid in Washington” and address the kitchen table issues impacting every family in our district,” said Johnson. “A change will be good for the citizens of Middle and Southwest Georgia, and with their help, we will retire Sanford Bishop.”
